Percy "Buster" Custus     

Percy Custus is the Boxing Trainer for the film.

Percy owns and operates the James Shuler Memorial Gym in West Philadelphia, has been in the fight game for 20 years. In terms of boxing, almost anyone who is anyone in Philadelphia has trained one time or another at Shuler's under Percy's skillful eye. Over the years, Percy gained a reputation as not only being a trainer and manager for most of the troubled boxers who walked through his door, but he was a surrogate father. One of those troubled young men was Najai Turpin, the boxer featured on the reality TV show "The Contender." Najai committed suicide in Philadelphia shortly after he lost a match and was sent home. Percey was pained by the tragedy, especially since he had trained Najai since he was 12 years old. Percy still trains several up and coming boxers and seasoned boxers too. One of his brightest fighters is USBA Super Middle Weight Champion, Yusaf Mack.
