The Star For A Day Contest™ Rules:

Introduction.

1. The Star For A Day Contest™ is an essay competition requiring entrants to share an extremely emotional, inherently personal aspect of themselves with others.  The sponsors of this competition hope that this selfless gift of self to others advances the discourse about breast cancer and other forms of cancer and that, consequently, a cure will be found some day soon.  To enter The Star For A Day Contest™, entrants pay a nonrefundable entry fee of $US10 (ten U.S. dollars) per essay submitted.  Ten percent (10%) of the proceeds from the entry fees will be donated to two cancer-related charity co-sponsors, The Lance Armstrong Foundation and The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.  The balance of the entry fees will be retained by the sponsor of this contest, The Champion Inside Movie, LLP (TCIM), for use, at its sole discretion, for administering this contest and for producing The Champion Inside™, a major motion picture whose central theme is overcoming cancer and continuing to live a full life in spite of, or perhaps because of, health setbacks related to cancer.

How to Enter.

2. The Star For A Day Contest™ is open to any cancer survivor, anyone who has lost a loved one to cancer, or anyone whose life has been impacted by cancer in a profound way.  Each entrant must write an original essay, limited to a maximum of 250 words, on How and Why the Champion Lives Inside of Me.™  Please share what has changed about your life since becoming a survivor, since losing your loved one, or since otherwise having your life profoundly changed by cancer.  Also discuss anything you do to help others who have been stricken with the devastating disease of cancer, or otherwise been adversely impacted by this disease.  Entries will judged based on relevance, originality, merit, thoughtfulness, grammar, and authenticity.  The impartial judges of this competition intend to reward honest expression, creatively presented and will select, from among those entries meeting these criteria, the five entries that best reflect the theme of the contest: How and Why the Champion Lives Inside of Me.™  The Grand Prize Winner will be chosen from the final five.  The remaining four entrants will become the First Prize Winners.   In addition to the essay, all entries should contain:

  1. Name of entrant*
  2. Address of entrant*
  3. Entrant’s home telephone number*
  4. Entrant’s cellular phone number or other alternate contact phone number
  5. Entrant’s date of birth (including day, month, and year)*
  6. Gender of entrant
  7. Form of cancer survived (or suffered by loved one)*
  8. Number of cancer-free years (if applicable)
  9. If entrant survived a lost loved one, include:
    i. Name of loved one (first name or nickname only is fine) *
    ii. Relationship to entrant (“friend” is fine)*
    iii. Date of loss of loved one*
  10. Additional helpful information

This biographical data will not count towards the 250-word maximum.

Eligibility Requirements and Prizes.

3. Entrant Eligibility Requirements: 

In the interest of fairness and impartiality, no entries will be accepted from employees or agents of TCIM, The Lance Armstrong Foundation and The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Jaguar Productions, Inc., A P in a Pod Productions, or their respective affiliates, or relatives of these employees or agents.  Entrants who are ineligible to submit entries will forfeit their entry fees and their entries (except in the case of underaged entrants as discussed herein below).

Entrants must be 18 years old or older.  Failure to comply with this and other rules herein may result in the relevant entries not being judged and/or any entry fees retained and treated as donations to the production of The Champion Inside™.

4. Prizes:

All The Star For A Day Contest™ prizes are completely non-transferable.  While entrants are welcome to participate in the contest from any place around the world, all travel covered by the Grand Prize must originate and end within the Continental United States or Canada.  Exceptions may be made, at the sole discretion of TCIM, for exceptional entrants.  

The Star For A Day Contest™ Grand Prize: One successful entrant (“Grand Prize Winner”) will perform at least one speaking line onscreen as an actor in the upcoming movie, The Champion Inside™.  To facilitate this performance, the Grand Prize Winner also receives round-trip economy major airline tickets to and from Philadelphia, PA, 3-star or higher hotel and meal accommodations for two days and two nights, limousine service between home and the departure airport and between the Philadelphia International Airport and the designated hotel in Philadelphia.  If the Grand Prize Winner lives within a two-hour drive of Philadelphia, home to hotel limousine service will be provided in lieu of air transportation.  Additionally, the Grand Prize Winner:

  1. Receives a The Champion Inside™ gift basket valued at approximately $US250 (two hundred and fifty U.S. dollars),
  2. Has a photographic publicity shoot with the stars of The Champion Inside™,
  3. Gets an onscreen recognition in the end credits of The Champion Inside™, and
  4. Participates in media interviews regarding his or her status as Grand Prize Winner.  All such publicity measures taken during the production and marketing of The Champion Inside™ will be as arranged by TCIM or its charity co-sponsors.  No unauthorized publicity efforts will be permitted during the pre-production, production, or post-production phases of this project.  Failure to comply with the publicity guidelines as set forth herein may become grounds for disqualification as Grand Prize Winner and legal action may also result.

Performance in The Champion Inside™ will be compensated at the then-current scale pay rates as adopted by the Screen Actors Guild (SAG), the federal Taft-Hartley Act, or the Pennsylvania Labor Relations Act, or their relevant counterparts, whichever of these is binding.  The costs associated with providing The Star For A Day™ Grand Prize benefits will be offset by the Grand Prize Winner’s earnings under the binding system. 

Failure of the Grand Prize Winner to meet all requirements of the relevant labor standards or statutes may result in disqualification from acting in The Champion Inside™ and/or forfeiture of the other benefits under The Grand Prize.   Likewise, failure of the Grand Prize Winner to qualify for the appropriate levels, types, and amounts of production insurance required under the labor laws and relevant collective bargaining agreements may result in the Grand Prize Winner’s disqualification from acting in The Champion Inside™ and/or forfeiture of all other Grand Prize benefits.   Finally, compensation for said role will be addressed specifically in a separate agreement between the Grand Prize Winner and TCIM.  The Grand Prize Winner’s unreasonable withholding of such agreement, or any other unreasonable failure to cooperate and to comply with these rules  is grounds for disqualification from acting in the Movie and forfeiture of the other Grand Prize benefits.

Disqualification of the initially-selected Grand Prize Winner may, at the sole discretion of TCIM, result in the elevation of one of the four First Prize Winners to Grand Prize Winner and, if appropriate, the former Grand Prize Winner may be relegated to First Prize Winner.  In the unlikely event that none of the First Prize Winners is eligible to assume Grand Prize Winner responsibilities, the best non-winning entrant who can qualify for Grand Prize Winner responsibilities may, at TCIM’s sole discretion, become the Grand Prize Winner.  Any entrant who is elevated to Grand Prize Winner will receive all rights and privileges and be held accountable for all responsibilities accorded hereunder to the Grand Prize Winner.

Notification of Grand Prize Winner:  The Grand Prize Winner will be notified of his or her selection using Certified Mail to the address provided in the online entry form.  Instructions will be provided thereby to facilitate the Grand Prize Winner’s acknowledgement of said notification.  Failure by Grand Prize Winner to timely respond to such notification is the sole responsibility of the Grand Prize Winner and may become the grounds for disqualification from participating in The Champion Inside™.  Entrants agree to hold TCIM, The Lance Armstrong Foundation, The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Jaguar Productions, Inc., and A P in a Pod Productions, or their respective affiliates, agents, and employees harmless for events, occurrences, phenomena, acts, omissions, and/or Acts of God (Force Majeure) which delay or interrupt notification or acknowledgement of such notification, or otherwise adversely impact their eligibility for participation in The Champion Inside™.  

Immediately upon notification of selection as the Grand Prize Winner, the successful entrant must provide:

  1. A recent professional or technically strong photograph of himself or herself,
  2. Proof of eligibility to legally work in the United States (acceptable documents are a government-issued passport (with appropriate work visa or other authorization as appropriate) or a social security card and one of the following:  a state-issued driver’s license or a state-issued non-driving ID card.  Entrants from outside of the United States or its territories are solely responsible for securing the proper work authorization prior to their participation in The Champion Inside™ .
  3. Consent to perform a criminal background check.  Those with a criminal background are ineligible to receive the prizes and honors associated with The Star For A Day Contest™.  No exceptions will apply and no refund of entry fees will be given.

The Grand Prize Winner is expected to perform in the Movie as an independent contractor and, therefore, TCIM, The Lance Armstrong Foundation, The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Jaguar Productions, Inc., and A P in a Pod Productions, or their respective affiliates, agents, and employees bear no responsibility for withholding or paying local, state, and/or federal income taxes or social security taxes, or for handling any other employment-related issues.  No offer of employment is hereby extended.

The Star For A Day Contest™ First Prize: Five entrants, including the Grand Prize Winner and four First Prize Winners (collectively “Winners”), will have their winning entries published on The Star For A Day Contest™ website www.thechampioninsidemovie.com.  All First Prize Winners will also receive exclusive The Champion Inside™ merchandise. 

Notification of First Prize Winner:  The First Prize Winners will be notified using Regular Mail and email to the addresses provided in the online entry form.  Instructions will be provided thereby to facilitate the First Prize Winners’ acknowledgement of said notifications.  Failure by the First Prize Winners to timely respond to such notification is the sole responsibility of each individual First Prize Winner.  Entrants agree to hold TCIM, The Lance Armstrong Foundation, The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Jaguar Productions, Inc., and A P in a Pod Productions, or their respective affiliates, agents, and employees harmless for events, occurrences, phenomena and/or Acts of God (Force Majeure) which delay or interrupt notification or acknowledgement of such notification.  

Immediately upon notification of becoming the First Prize Winners, the successful entrants must provide:

  1. A recent professional or technically strong photograph of himself or herself,
  2. Consent to perform a criminal background check.  Those with a criminal background are ineligible to receive the prizes and honors associated with The Star For A Day Contest™.  No exceptions will apply.

Intellectual Property Licensing Issues. 

5. All entries become the subject of a non-exclusive transferable intellectual property license of said entries to TCIM.  In consideration for such license of non-winning entries, TCIM agrees to assess each such entry by a panel of judges appointed by TCIM, The Lance Armstrong Foundation, and The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.   Consideration for winning entries is as stated above herein.  Every effort will be made to protect the privacy of those non-winning entrants whose entries are used or published other than as described herein. 

By entering this competition, each entrant warrants that the story presented for consideration is absolutely true to the best of his or her knowledge and is a completely original work created by the entrant.  Each entrant further agrees to hold TCIM, The Lance Armstrong Foundation, The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Jaguar Productions, Inc., and A P in a Pod Productions, or their respective affiliates, agents, and employees harmless against any legal claims arising out of the entrant’s presentation of an entry as his or her own, and to indemnify TCIM , The Lance Armstrong Foundation, and The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Jaguar Productions, Inc., and A P in a Pod Productions, or their respective affiliates, agents, and employees if these parties are adjudged liable for infringement or misrepresentation resulting from reliance upon the representations made by that entrant.

6. This contest offer expires after midnight on December 31, 2008 and all entries must be received by this date.  No entries received after this time will be considered, and no entry fees paid after this time will be refunded (except in the case of underage entrants).  Entrants agree to hold TCIM, The Lance Armstrong Foundation, The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Jaguar Productions, Inc., and A P in a Pod Productions, or their respective affiliates, agents, and employees harmless for events, occurrences, phenomena and/or Acts of God (Force Majeure) which delay or interrupt successful entry.
